If your appearance changes substantially, it's necessary to get new shots. Even if there are no drastic changes to your appearance, you may want to consider getting new shots on a regular basis.

If you dye your hair, get a new hair style, gain or lose weight, or otherwise do something to change your appearance drastically, make sure to get new headshots.
